How to deal with sensitive data?

The DQ Assistant identifies different types of sensitive data (PII, Personally Identifiable Information). They can be adjusted in the settings menu:

Especially before sharing an Excel sheet with a colleague, we recommend to always check for certain sensitive data types (e.g., email addresses, names).

Recommended steps:

  • Be familiar with the sensitive data types that are always critical within the company for compliance reasons

  • Check if there are any other specific PII requirements in the context in which the Excel sheet is used

  • Specifically check the entire sheet for the respective PII dimensions - especially for names, double-check for potentially rare names that might not be identified by the DQ Assistant

  • Replace all sensitive data with a "XX" or delete the respective cells - the most efficient way is to filter the DQ Assistant for "Sensitive" and check all marked cells
